I’m proud to do my first business spotlight today, and what better way to begin than with the Freedom Boat Club?

I’m here with Steve Sherman, the head of sales and new memberships. Steve is actually the one who signed me up with the Club six years ago, so I wanted to give him an opportunity to tell us about the Freedom Boat Club and what its members are all about.

The Boat Club is one of the coolest ways to get out on the water and enjoy the lifestyle in Hilton Head without all the hassles of owning a boat. They have 32 boats in the fleet between their Hilton Head and Beaufort locations.

The Freedom Boat Club rotates its entire fleet at a minimum of every three years, though they’re trying to reduce that down to every two-and-a-half years. This way, its members will always be on new or like-new boats when they go out on the water.

Members have access to an online reservation system, in which they’re able to log on and select the specific boat they’d like. There, they can reserve up to four separate boats on four separate days; once selected, members can lock in their reservations for those days. As soon as one reserved day is used, you can go right back in the system and add another.

In addition to the reservation system, members can simply call in on the phone and ask for availabilities. About 90% of the time, and without a reservation, the Freedom Boat Club can get you out on the water in one of their boats.

If you’re not an experienced boater, no problem. The club is a great way to get involved; members just show up, get on their boat, go have fun on the water, and then come back. All they have to do is pay for gas, then they can go back home.

There are two plans for aspiring members of the Freedom Boat Club: one is a full, seven-day plan that offers unlimited usage, and the other is a weekday-only, full-usage plan. After a one-time entry fee, they have affordable monthly dues that range from as little as $249 a month to $309. You can’t even store a boat in this area for that kind of money. As mentioned, the only other expense is for fuel; dock staff will even refuel the boat for you.

The Freedom Boat Club now has more than 170 locations nationwide. Membership with the Hilton Head location gets you unlimited usage not only here, but in the Port Royal location just south of Buford. For all other locations, you can use the Club four times a year per location. This year, the club is even expanding to Europe with France, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland, before also adding south Central America.
