I recently came across an article from Forbes that did a great job at spelling out some excellent negotiation strategies. You can read the full article here, but these are some of my key takeaways from it:

First, negotiations should never be adversarial. You should negotiate with the other party, not against them. If you do this, you will have success. Oftentimes, a buyer or seller may feel as if they’re being taken advantage of, but 99% of the time that is not the case.

It’s easy to let your imagination wander when there is no personal engagement yet, but you must remember to keep your emotions at bay in the moment, and remember that both parties are looking for a win-win situation. If you keep that focus, that’s the groundwork for a successful negotiation.

There is no place for
dishonesty in a negotiation.

One of my favorite things from the article is the idea that you should never lose trust in a negotiation. There is no place for dishonesty in a negotiation, and one party losing trust in another will create a negative situation and a toxic environment.

If you have any questions for me about real estate negotiations or real estate in general, don’t hesitate to reach out via phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you.
